Thirty Nine - Spam as a Time Lord

[Bob spent the first day just lying on his bed, reviewing probabilities of things like his desk or chair, what they were likely to do and how. He felt the presences of all the people on the barge and how broken and sore they were, no wonder they lashed out, though he bounced off their minds rather than probed into them.

He lacked the discipline of a trained telepath, but that didn't mean that his mind wasn't disciplined at all. He cared with a deepness and his mother drilled into him what was right and honourable and heroic and that meant respecting each and every one.

He placed his hands on his hearts, listening to their beating.

Eventually, slowly, he rose, moving across his cabin, seeing how the room changed according to his perspective as if he'd never been in this cabin before.

He decided to take a walk, a slow one across that took him across the entire Barge.]

Considering how you've approached everything including being human with ill-temper and irritation, your actions speak louder than your words.

Being annoyed by having been turned into a human doesn't mean I'm tired of life. [He snorts. What sort of fool gets tired of living, anyway?] Neither does being annoyed by you. And I approach quite a few things without being annoyed.

Being constantly annoyed does. And it's by no means limited to me or being human.

It doesn't, nor is my annoyance constant. You've not even seen me that often to be able to judge.

It didn't make me tired of life in general. I very much intend to continue living.

Yes, of course, but that's not what I'm saying at all. Giving up is several leagues away from being tired.

I've been here for over a year. Even if I was tired then, why would I still be?

Because you're stuck. Because even though this cage is adorned with someone who matters to you, it makes it no less of one and your people no less of a spectre that hangs over you, in that singular moment of suffering while you're here helpless to do anything about it until some creature with no face, no name and no accountability decides you're 'good enough' and not one of your wardens allowed you the simple consideration of letting you know what that creature thinks of you now. Even if it is out of well-meaning thinking, that's still neglect from people you're told to rely on despite the fact that aren't even a full percentage of your age! And all the while, being changed every which way?

What kind of man wouldn't be tired of that?

[He swallows.] I will not- [change. Except he does. And has. And he hates it, even if he knows it's necessary to succeed. Maybe especially because he knows.]

Tired or not, I will not give up. You need not worry about that, warden. [And now he has to think about whether he should hate you for getting so close or if he should respect you. Just a little.]

[Bob nods.] Don't give up. I won't let this place do to you what it did you me, not if I can help it. I give you my word.

[He looks at Bob warily.] What did it do?

Amnesia flood. Convinced me that I lost my son and that we weren't close. I gave up. [He nearly threw himself over the side.]

[Rassilon frowns. Convincing people they've lost their children is not funny, Admiral :|]

But you graduated eventually.

Well, I got my memories back. Built a sweat hut and recovered myself. It was a long road.

[His frown deepens.] One has to wonder if the Admiral is actually interested in our.... success.

I'm honestly past caring. I can't control him, I control myself.

Hmm. It surprises me that you would want to work for him after that.

What makes you think I'm working for him? I've no deal to earn, I only came because my son was here, I only stay because I have a duty to you... the Admiral figures in none of that. Apart from maybe transportation.
